Colts Neck, NJ - Award For Architectural Excellance '07 - Colts Neck New Jersey

Left: Robert Lombardi of Lombardi Builders transformed a 1960s California-style ranch into this English Cottage-style home. "The house with its woodwork, natural stonework, and copper is also influenced by American country homes of the Gilded Age," says the builder. Its numerious windows, including the large window seat into the stone gable, provided views of a nearby reservoir. The dormer windows are all topped by curved copper to add a cottage-like detail and to complement the traditional copper and wood cupola. The cedar garage doors are stained to look like mahogany. An archway built to frame the doors provides a graceful note at the front of the home. Another graceful and elegant note, Lombardi says, is the flared skirting at the base of the siding. The curved roofline balances the skirting.
